TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS, THINK “OUTSIDE THE BOX”

I often ask my clients to think of new ways to grow their business, improve their client experience, and motivate their team to do better work.

Sometimes, it’s difficult to get them to understand what I’m talking about. Here are some examples from various industries:

Orange Juice

In 1907, the ‘California Fruit Growers Exchange’ was losing money and market share on oranges. They hired Albert Lasker, a sales guy with zero experience, to sell oranges and capture market share.

A month into the job, Lasker asked the Exchange board to make orange juice. The result: Orange sales increased 1400%.

Ice Cream Cone

Ice cream was around for over a hundred years before the invention of the ice cream cone, which tripled sales in the year it was introduced.

Razor Distribution

With razors getting more and more expensive, the founders of The Dollar Shave Club found a way to sell razors for $1 per month (and then to upsell), and now has millions of monthly members.

Zipcar

The founders of Zipcar, a subscription service that allows you to rent a car by the hour found a profitable way to eliminate the need for many people to own a vehicle or rent for a day or more.

AirBnB

Airbnb started when two guys needed rent money, so they rented out air mattresses in their home during a popular design conference and called it ‘Air Bed and Breakfast’.

Financial and Insurance Business

Specialization is one tool that helps advisors differentiate themselves. Mary Jo Irmen is a top producer who focuses on farmers who want to learn how to finance their growth without relying on loans from banks and other sources. Her podcast for them brings new clients to her every month.

What can you dream up that would bring you more new business?

What could you do for your clients that have them talking you up to everyone they know?

What could you do for your staff that would have them bringing everyone they know to buy from you, invest with you, talk with you or excite them about getting better at what they do?

Would a Brainstorming Session help you open your mind to unique approaches that could drive or improve business?  If so, message me with the word “BRAINSTORM”.

In the meantime, keep REACHING…

16 Disciplines

I suppose it would have been more fun if I called them 16 “hot tubs” for advisors, or less intimidating if I called them “practices,” but after 17 years of working with and observing how the most successful advisors, it's clear that there are branches of knowledge involved.

Practice these simple 16 disciplines daily and watch how quickly and easily your practice grows.
